Higher Education Bill — Meaning of "the relevant authority" — 31 Mar 2004 at 18:34

Gillian Merron MP, Lincoln voted with the majority (Teller for the Noes).

The majority of MPs voted to keep the proposed arrangements for the Office for Fair Access to approve access plans prepared by universities before permitting them to charge top up fees.

The rejected Lords amendment read:

  • No. 71, in page 13, line 37, leave out 'Director (as defined by section 29(1)' and insert 'funding body (as defined in section 22(2))

The effect of this would presumably have been to give the main role of the Office for Fair Access to the various higher education funding bodies.
