The majority voted to remove the Freedom of Information clause that was added to the Banking (Special Provisions) Bill[1] in the House of Lords earlier in the day.[2]

The reversal of their amendments was accepted by the House of Lords,[3] and the Bill received its royal assent at 11:05pm.[4]

The Northern Rock plc Transfer Order 2008 was laid before Parliament on the same day and came into force the following day. Six weeks later Parliament voted against annulling this order.[5]
