MPs' expenses — outer-London MPs can no longer claim second home — 30 Apr 2009 at 17:00
The majority of MPs voted for a motion, which read:[1]
- With effect from 1 April 2010, no distinction shall be made for the purposes of the rules governing Members' allowances between an hon. Member who represents an inner-London constituency and an hon. Member who represents any other constituency the whole of which falls within 20 miles of the Palace of Westminster.
This motion takes 49 outer-London constituencies out of the travel and second home allowance scheme.[2]
As recently as July 2008 MPs voted against even reducing the allowable claim for outer-London MPs on second home expenses by 50%.[3][4]
