This was a division of a committee of the whole house. The majority of MPs voted against an amendment which, according to the description given by the MP proposing he amendment would have furthered the recommendations of Sir John Baker and removed the requirement for the House to pass further resolutions in order to amend MPs' pay, which would have become entirely a matter of statute. Had the amendment been been included in the bill, it would have stopped the practice of MPs voting on their own pay.
