Academies Bill — New Academies Only Where There is Proven Need -rejected — 21 Jul 2010 at 20:30
The majority of MPs voted against requiring new academy schools to only be built in areas where there is a proven need for additional capacity.
The text of the defeated amendment was:
- page 1, line 22, at end insert-
- (za) if the school is an additional school, the school meets a proven need for additional capacity in the area in which the school is situated;'.
If adopted the proposed additional text would have become one of the mandated characteristics of an academy school.
