Simon Hart MP, Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire voted against making the Electoral Commission's work to promote public awareness of the referendum subject to the agreement of the Speaker's Committee on the Electoral Commission.

Labour MP Chris Bryant moved the amendment to the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill[1] which was voted on. His amendment proposed taking the part of the bill[2] (page 17, line 5) which stated:
- "The Electoral Commission must take whatever steps they think appropriate to promote public awareness about the referendum and how to vote in it."
and would have added the following to the end:
- "subject to the agreement of the Speaker's Committee on the Electoral Commission".
