Stewart Jackson MP, Peterborough voted against bringing the date of the next general election forward by a year to 1 May 2014.

MPs rejected an amendment to the Fixed-term Parliaments Bill[1] which stated:

  • page 1, line 5, leave out '7 May 2015' and insert '1 May 2014'.

In the bill as introduced[2] the relevant clause stated:

  • The polling day for the next parliamentary general election after the passing of this Act is to be 7 May 2015.
