Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill — Clause 1 — Referendum on the Alternative Vote — Threshold for Binding Result — 15 Feb 2011 at 20:46

MP, did not vote.

The majority of MPs voted not to require a 40% turnout in the referendum on using the Alternative Vote system for electing MPs for the result to be binding.

MPs were considering the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill[1]. The motion passed by the majority of MPs in this vote was:

  • That this House disagrees with Lords amendment 1.

Lords amendment [2] stated:

  • Page 1, line 5, at end insert—
  • “(1A) If less than 40% of the electorate vote in the referendum, the result shall not be binding.”
