National Planning Policy Statement for Nuclear Power Generation — 18 Jul 2011 at 21:00
Ben Wallace MP, Wyre and Preston North voted to approve the principle of building new nuclear power stations on sites at Bradwell, Hartlepool, Heysham, Hinkley Point, Oldbury, Sizewell, Sellafield and Wylfa.
The majority of MPs approved the National Planning Policy Statement for Nuclear Power Generation against which applications for nuclear power stations would be assessed. The document includes a list of sites the Government assessed to be potentially suitable for such development before the end of 2025, which were:
- Bradwell;
- Hartlepool;
- Heysham;
- Hinkley Point;
- Oldbury;
- Sizewell;
- Sellafield; and
- Wylfa.
The text of the approved motion was:
- That this House takes note of and approves the National Policy Statement for Nuclear Power Generation (EN-6), which was laid before this House on 23 June.
