Draft Community Right to Challenge (Fire and Rescue Authorities and Rejection of Expressions of Interest) (England) Regulations 2012 — 20 Jun 2012 at 19:54
David Blunkett MP, Sheffield, Brightside and Hillsborough voted not to extend the ability of various groups to bid to take over state-run services to fire and rescue services and not to extend the grounds on which bids to run services can be rejected.
The majority of MPs voted to approve regulations related to the "community right to challenge" laws which give various groups the right to bid to take over local state-run services.
The regulations approved in this vote extended the scope of the right to challenge laws to cover specified fire and rescue authorities and provided for additional grounds on which bids could be rejected.
One ground for rejecting a bid introduced by the regulations was if the service in question is provided to people also receiving NHS services continued integration with those NHS services such services is, in the opinion of the relevant authority, critical to the well-being of those persons.
The motion approved by the majority of MPs was:
- That the draft Community Right to Challenge (Fire and Rescue Authorities and Rejection of Expressions of Interest) (England) Regulations 2012, which were laid before this House on 30 April 2012, in the previous Session of Parliament, be approved.
