European Union (Approval of Treaty Amendment Decision) Bill — New Clause 3 — Report on the impact of the European Stability Mechanism on the economic performance of the European Union — 10 Sep 2012 at 19:30
John Baron MP, Basildon and Billericay did not vote.
The majority of MPs voted against requiring a report on the impact of the European Stability Mechanism on the economic performance of the European Union.
The purpose of the Bill under consideration was to enable the UK to ratify a treaty bringing into being the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which will provide financial assistance to eurozone States, up to a limit of €500bn, in order to safeguard the economic stability of the eurozone.
This vote was on adding a new clause to the Bill stating:
- The Chancellor of the Exchequer shall make a report to Parliament within one year of the Act coming into force and annually thereafter setting out an assessment of the impact of the European Stability Mechanism on the economic performance of the European Union
