Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill — Clause 52 — Commission for Equality and Human Rights — 17 Oct 2012 at 18:00

The majority of MPs voted to remove some powers and duties from the Commission for Equality and Human Rights and to reduce the frequency with which the Commission is required to report on progress in society.

Specific powers and duties removed from the commission included:

• the duty to promote good relations between members of different groups and related powers
• the power to make arrangements for the provision of conciliation in certain non-employment-related disputes

The reduction in the frequency with which the Commission is required to report on changes and developments in society relevant to its role is from every three to every five years.

MPs were considering the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill^[1]. The amendment rejected in this vote was:

• Amendment: 56, page 43, line 27, leave out clause 52.

Clause 52^[2] was titled Commission for Equality and Human Rights and had the effect described above.
