Crime and Courts Bill — New Clause 7 — Allow Complaints About Baliffs to Be Taken to Ombudsman — 13 Mar 2013 at 19:00
Richard Burden MP, Birmingham, Northfield voted to allow complaints about baliffs to be taken to the Office for Legal Complaints' Legal Ombudsman.
The majority of MPs voted against allowing complaints about baliffs to be taken to the Office for Legal Complaints' Legal Ombudsman.
MPs were considering the Crime and Courts Bill[1]. The proposed new clause rejected in this vote was New Clause 7[2].
The rejected clause sought to add a new clause to the Legal Services Act 2007 relating to the Jurisdiction and operation of the ombudsman scheme and allows a complainant against a bailiff redress through an ombudsman.
During the debate Jenny Chapman MP (Darlington, Labour) explained[3]:
- The new clause amends the Legal Services Act 2007 to provide for enforcement services to be treated as a reserved legal activity, which means that the Office for Legal Complaints would have jurisdiction to deal with complaints about bailiffs.
