Income Tax for 2013-14 — 25 Mar 2013 at 21:46

Stewart Jackson MP, Peterborough voted to levy an income tax during the tax year 2013-14.

The majority of MPs voted to levy an income tax during the tax year 2013-14.

Income tax is an annual tax. It is for Parliament to impose income tax for a tax year[1].

The majority of MPs voted in favour of a motion stating:

  • That income tax is charged for the tax year 2013-14.
  • And it is declared that it is expedient in the public interest that this Resolution should have statutory effect under the provisions of the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act 1968.

Had this motion not been passed; and had MPs not imposed an income tax via another route then no income tax would have been payable for 2013-14. Income to the government from income tax for 2012-13 was estimated to be £149 billion[2].
