Defence Reforms — Delay Disbandment of Regular Units Until Army Reserve Plan Shown to Be Viable — 17 Oct 2013 at 15:00

Oliver Letwin MP, West Dorset did not vote.

The majority of MPs voted in favour of delaying the disbandment of regular units until it is established that the Army Reserve plan is viable and cost-effective.

The motion approved by the majority of MPs was:

  • That this House
  • notes concerns about the Government’s defence reforms in relation to whether its proposals for the reserve forces will deliver either the anticipated cost savings or defence capability; and
  • urges the Government to delay the disbandment of regular units until it is established that the Army Reserve plan is viable and cost-effective.
