Owen Paterson MP, North Shropshire voted not to require those running internet and telephone gambling operations to ban those who have registered for self-exclusion.
The majority of MPs voted against requiring those holding remote operating licence for gambling (eg. to run an internet or telephone gambling operation) to exclude any person who has registered for self-exclusion from using their services.
MPs were considering the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Bill[1]. The motion rejected in this vote was:
- That the clause be read a Second time.
The clause in question was:
- After section 89(1) (remote operating licence) of the Gambling Act 2005, insert—
- “( ) The Commission shall hold a list of persons who have registered to be excluded from remote gambling.
- ( ) It shall be a condition of a remote operating licence that an operator must exclude any person who has registered for self-exclusion with the Commission.
The commission referred to is the Gambling Commission.
