European Union (Referendum) Bill — Require Report on UK Relationship With EU Post Withdrawl Prior to EU Membership Referendum — 31 Jan 2014 at 13:00
Baroness Gale voted to require the publication of a report on the UK's intended relationship with the EU in the event of the UK's withdrawal prior to a referendum on the UK's EU membership.
The majority of members of the House of Lords voted to require the publication of a report on the UK's intended relationship with the EU in the event of the UK's withdrawal prior to a referendum on the UK's EU membership.
Members of the House of Lords were considering the European Union (Referendum) Bill[1] The amendment accepted in this vote was:
- Amendment 50A: Clause 1, page 1, line 14, at end insert—
- “(7) No order shall be made under subsection (6) until the Secretary of State has prepared, published and laid before Parliament an assessment of the United Kingdom’s intended relationship with the European Union in the event of withdrawal from the European Union.”
This would have added a new subclause to clause 1 of the Bill[2], requiring the publication of the report mentioned prior to an order setting the date of the referendum, or approving the Welsh translation, can be made.
