Kevan Jones MP, North Durham voted to require a report on the impact of raising the rate of tax applied to income over £150,000 from 45% to 50%.
The majority of MPs voted against requiring a report on increasing the additional rate of income tax to 50%. At the time of the vote the additional rate was 45% and applied to income over £150,000[1]
MPs were considering the Finance Bill[2]. The text of the proposed new clause rejected in this vote was:
- ‘(1) The Chancellor of the Exchequer shall make arrangements for conducting a review of the impact of increasing the additional rate to 50%.
- (2) The Secretary of State shall lay a copy of the report of the review mentioned in subsection (1) before each House of Parliament within three months of the passing of this Act.’.
