Abortion (Sex-Selection) Bill — 4 Nov 2014 at 13:28

Geoffrey Cox MP, Torridge and West Devon did not vote.

The majority of MPs voted in favour of clarifying that abortions on the grounds of the sex of the unborn child are not permitted.

The majority of MPs taking part in this vote voted in favour of the following motion:

  • That leave be given to bring in a Bill to clarify the law relating to abortion on the basis of sex-selection; and for connected purposes.

While the text of the Bill[1] was not available at the time of the vote the MP seeking permission to bring in the Bill stated[2]:

  • The Bill is extremely straightforward, merely clarifying that nothing in section 1 of the Abortion Act 1967 allows a pregnancy to be terminated on the grounds of the sex of the unborn child.
