Frank Dobson MP, Holborn and St Pancras voted against the creation of strategic highways companies to take on some, or all, of the role of the Highways Agency.
The majority of MPs voted to enable the creation of strategic highways companies to take on some, or all, of the role of the Highways Agency.
MPs were considering the Infrastructure Bill[1]
The amendment rejected in this vote was:
- page 1, line 4, leave out clauses 1 and 2.
Clauses 1 and 2 of the Bill[2] were titled:
- Appointment of strategic highways companies
and
- Areas and highways in an appointment
The provisions which were retained in the Bill following the vote enable companies wholly owned by the Secretary of State to be appointed as highway authorities for specified highways in particular areas. Only responsibility for highways which were previously the responsibility of the Secretary of State (rather than local councils, as local highways authorities) are to be transferred to any new companies.
