European Union Referendum Bill — Clause 1 — Publication of Renegotiation Terms and Consequences of Leaving EU — 7 Sep 2015 at 23:27

Theresa May MP, Maidenhead voted against requiring the publication of the terms of any renegotiation between the UK and the EU and the consequences for the UK of leaving the EU.

The majority of MPs voted against requiring the publication, at least ten weeks before the referendum, of the terms of any renegotiation between the United Kingdom and the European Union and the consequences for the United Kingdom of leaving the European Union.

MPs were considering the European Union Referendum Bill.[1]

The amendment rejected in this vote was:

  • amendment 16, page 1, line 14, at end insert
  • ‘(6) At least 10 weeks before the date on which the referendum is to be held the Government shall publish a White Paper outlining the terms of any renegotiation between the United Kingdom and the European Union and the consequences for the United Kingdom of leaving the European Union.”
  • This amendment requires the Government to produce a white paper on the results of the Government’s renegotiation with the EU and the consequences for Britain of leaving the EU.

Had it not been rejected the proposed new subclause would have been added to the end of Clause 1[2] titled: The referendum.
