Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill — New Clause 23 — Report on Funding of Combined Authorities — 21 Oct 2015 at 15:22

Jon Trickett MP, Hemsworth voted to require a report on the impact on combined authorities of the way in which central government funds are allocated to them.

The majority of MPs voted not to require a report on the impact on combined authorities of the way in which central government funds are allocated to them.

Combined authorities are groups of local councils which, in relation to certain areas of their activities, pool responsibilities and receive additional powers devolved from central government.

MPs were considering the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill[1]

The proposed new clause, titled: Fair funding settlement: report which was rejected in this vote stated:

“Within six months of the passing of this Act, the Secretary of State must publish a report on the impact on the functions of combined authorities of the fairness of the distribution of funding from central government to local authorities, particularly with regard to levels of deprivation.”

An explanatory statement accompanying the rejected new clause stated:

  • This new Clause would require a report linking the impact of devolution with the level of funding.
