Psychoactive Substances Bill — Schedule 1 — Exempted Substances — Alkyl Nitrites (Poppers) — 20 Jan 2016 at 16:49

Oliver Letwin MP, West Dorset voted to ban the production and supply of alkyl nitrites (poppers) when not used as a medicinal product.

The majority of MPs voted to ban the production and supply of alkyl nitrites (poppers) when not used as a medicinal product.

MPs were considering the Psychoactive Substances Bill[1].

The amendment rejected in this vote was:

  • Amendment 5, page 41, line 12, at end insert—
  • “Miscellaneous
  • 8 Alkyl nitrites”

This would have added Alkyl nitrites to the list of exempted substances in Schedule 1[2] of the Bill.

An explanatory note[3] accompanying the rejected amendment explained its intent:

  • This would exempt “poppers” from the Bill, as recommended by the Home Affairs Select Committee.
