Simon Hart MP, Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire voted against requiring the Government to produce a strategy on careers education for those in apprenticeships and technical or occupational education.

The majority of MPs voted against requiring the Government to produce a strategy on careers education for those in apprenticeships and technical or occupational education.

MPs were considering the Technical and Further Education Bill[1].

The proposed new clause rejected in this vote was titled: Careers education: duty to publish strategy and began:

  • “‘(1) The Secretary of State shall publish a strategy for the purposes of improving careers education for persons receiving education or training—
  • (a) in the course of an approved English apprenticeship;
  • (b) for the purposes of an approved technical education qualification; or
  • (c) for the purposes of approved steps towards occupational competence.
  • (2) The strategy shall be laid before Parliament.
  • ..."

The rejected new clause was accompanied by the following explanatory statement:

  • This new clause would establish a statutory requirement for the Government to produce a strategy on careers education, which shall be taken to be the "Careers Strategy".
