European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill — Clause 1 — Report on Impact of EU Withdrawl on National Finances and Health Spending — 8 Feb 2017 at 18:05

Karen Bradley MP, Staffordshire Moorlands voted against requiring a report on the impact of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union on national finances including health spending.

The majority of MPs voted against requiring a report on the impact of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union on national finances including health spending.

MPs were considering the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill[1].

The proposed amendment rejected was:

  • Amendment: 11, page 1, line 5, at end insert—
  • “(3) Before exercising the power under subsection (1), the Prime Minister must prepare and publish a report on the effect of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU on national finances, including the impact on health spending.”

The amendment was accompanied by an explanatory note stating:

This amendment calls for the Government to publish a report on the effect of EU withdrawal on the national finances, particularly health spending following claims in the referendum campaign that EU withdrawal would allow an additional £350 million per week to be spent on the National Health Service.

The rejected amendment would have added an additional subclause at the end of clause one of the Bill[2].
