European Union (Withdrawal) Bill — Clause 9 — Parliamentary Approval for Terms of the UK's Withdrawal from the EU — 13 Dec 2017 at 18:45

Sarah Wollaston MP, Totnes voted to require Parliamentary approval of the final agreement with the EU on the terms of the UK's withdrawal from the EU.

The majority of MPs voted to require Parliamentary approval of the final agreement with the European Union on the terms of the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union.

MPs were considering the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill[1].

The amendment supported in this vote was:

  • Amendment 7, page 6, line 45, at end insert “, subject to the prior enactment of a statute by Parliament approving the final terms of withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.”

The additional text was added after subclause 9(1) of the Bill, which stated:

  • (1) A Minister of the Crown may by regulations make such provision as the Minister considers appropriate for the purposes of implementing the withdrawal agreement if the Minister considers that such provision should be in force on or before exit day.

The amendment was accompanied by the following explanatory note:

  • To require the final deal with the EU to be approved by statute passed by Parliament.
