Planning Bill — Infrastructure Planning Commission is advisory — rejected — 6 Nov 2008 at 13:14

The majority of the Lords voted against changing the purpose of the Infrastructure Planning Commission as outlined in Planning Bill[1] to an advisory role by inserting the highlighted words[2] in the phrase:

  • There is to be a body corporate called the Infrastructure Planning Commission for the purpose of advising the Secretary of State on decisions made under section (Decisions by the Secretary of State on applications for orders granting development consent)

This would have addressed the situation that the proposed Commission is to have the final say on the issues brought before it, without the possible veto by a Minister.
