The majority of members of the House of Lords rejected a proposal for the referendum on electing MPs via the "alternative vote" system ought be held on a separate day from any other polls or elections.
The House of Lords was considering the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill[1]. The amendment rejected in this vote was:
Amendment 15: Clause 1, page 1, line 6, at end insert-
- "( ) The date of the referendum shall not coincide with any poll or polls for any parliamentary assembly or regularly held local government elections."
