Peter Aldous MP, Waveney voted to introduce fees for appealing many immigration decisions.

The majority of MPs voted to introduce fees for appealing immigration decisions to the Immigration and Asylum Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal.

The majority of MPs approved the motion:

Fees charged under the order are subject to a number of exemptions contained within article 5 of the order, and include appeals against decisions to deprive an individual of their right of abode, or citizenship; decisions on various categories of removals, and decisions to revoke indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

The explanatory notes to the order[1] state:

  • The Government believes that it is appropriate that users of the Tribunal contribute towards the cost of their appeal where they can afford to do so.

and:

  • this is the first instance of fees being imposed in an instance involving action by the state against individuals.
