Pensions Bill — Clause 1 — Accelerate Transition to Equal Pensionable Age for Men and Women — 18 Oct 2011 at 19:30

The majority of MPs voted to accelerate the transition to an equal pension age for men and women; by raising the pension age for women, delaying some women reaching state pension age.

MPs were considering the Pensions Bill^[1]. The amendment rejected in this vote was:

• Amendment 3, page 1, line 8, leave out subsection (4)

Subsection (4) amends the timetable which sets out when a woman born on a particular date reaches state pension age during the transition from 60 to 65. The transition is accelerated, so that instead of increasing in one-month increments, state pension age increases in increments of three months^[2].
