Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit — 15 Sep 2021 at 16:21

The majority of MPs voted in favour of continuing paying an additional twenty pounds a week to those on Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit beyond April 2021; the additional sum had been introduced for one year in April 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The motion supported by the majority of MPs in this vote was:

  • That this House
  • calls on the Government to cancel its planned cut to Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit which from the end of September 2021 will reduce support for many hard-working families by £1,040 a year.

In April 2020 Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit were increased by twenty pounds a week (£1040/year) as a temporary measure in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.[1]
