Welfare Cap — 10 Jan 2022 at 21:44
The motion approved by a majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That the level of the welfare cap, as specified in the Autumn Budget and Spending Review 2021, which was laid before this House on 27 October 2021, be approved.
"The welfare cap is a self-imposed limit on the amount that the government of the United Kingdom can spend on certain social security benefits and tax credits."[1] (Source: Wikipedia)
The welfare cap was specified in the Autumn Budget and Spending Review 2021 at £127.5 billion for 2021-2 rising to £141.1 billion for 2024.[2]
The cap was "reset" and increase in-line with forecast spending in this vote.[3]
