Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill — Maximise Fraction of 17-24 Year Olds On Electoral Register Before Reviewing Constituancy Boundries — 12 Jan 2011 at 18:57
The majority of members of the House of Lords voted against requiring an assurance action has been taken to to maximise the proportion of 17 to 24 year olds who are on the electoral register before using the register as a basis for reviewing the boundaries of Parliamentary constituencies.
The House of Lords was considering the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill[1]. The amendment rejected in this vote was:
- Amendment 58ZZZB: Page 8, line 15, at end insert—
- “( ) No Boundary Commission shall begin work on a report to be submitted under subsection (1) above until both Houses of Parliament have approved a separate report issued by the Secretary of State confirming that particular action has been taken to maximise the proportion of 17 to 24 year olds who are on the electoral register.”
