Budget Resolutions and Economic Situation — 2. Beer (rate of duty) — 23 Mar 1998
The Aye voters passed the following motion:
"That provision may be made increasing the rate of duty set out in section 36(1) of the Alcoholic Liquor Duties Act 1979."
Looking at clause 1 of the Finance Bill 1998 (scroll down to page 1) it would seem that the rate of duty on beer was being increased from £11.14 to £11.50.
Votes by party, red entries are votes against the majority for that party.
What is Tell? '+1 tell' means that in addition one member of that party was a teller for that division lobby.
What are Boths? An MP can vote both aye and no in the same division. The boths page explains this.
What is Turnout? This is measured against the total membership of the party at the time of the vote.
|Party||Majority (Aye)||Minority (No)||Both||Turnout|
|Con||0||146 (+2 tell)||0||91.4%|
|Lab||300 (+2 tell)||0||0||72.4%|
