Finance Bill — Clause 21 — Amusement Machine licence duty — 28 Apr 2008 at 19:45
The Finance Bill introduced an increase in duty on betting machines. Those voting Aye failed to pass an amendment that would have either reversed this increase, or increased the number of category B3 machines a venue was allowed to have. The amendment would have added the following text to the Bill:
'(3) The amendment made by subsection (1) ceases to have effect on 1st April 2009 unless the Secretary of State has made regulations under the Gambling Act 2005 which permit up to one-fifth of the gaming machines in bingo halls and arcades to be Category B3 machines (as defined in regulations made under section 236 of that Act).'.
