Fixed-term Parliaments Bill — Clause 1 — 2014 General Election — 16 Nov 2010 at 21:30
The majority of MPs voted against bringing the date of the next general election forward by a year to 1 May 2014.
MPs rejected an amendment to the Fixed-term Parliaments Bill[1] which stated:
- page 1, line 5, leave out '7 May 2015' and insert '1 May 2014'.
In the bill as introduced[2] the relevant clause stated:
- The polling day for the next parliamentary general election after the passing of this Act is to be 7 May 2015.
