The majority of members of the House of Lords voted against reducing the consultation period on proposed new parliamentary constituencies from 12 to six weeks.
The House of Lords was considering the Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill[1]. The motion rejected in this vote was:
- Amendment 27GA : Clause 12, line 11, leave out "12" and insert "6"
The section of the Bill affected stated:
- that representations with respect to the proposed recommendations may be made to the Commission during a specified period of 12 weeks;
this relates to the consultation period for proposed new parliamentary constituency boundaries.
