Health and Social Care Bill — Establishment of the Health Service Regulator — Monitor — 6 Sep 2011 at 20:29
The majority of MPs voted in favour of creating Monitor[1], a health service regulator, with a duty to protect and promote the interests of people who use health care services by promoting provision of health care services which are economic, efficient and effective, and which maintain or improve the quality of the services.
MPs were considering the Health and Social Care Bill[2] which contained provisiona to create Monitor by changing the name of the Independent Regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts and giving the new body different duties and powers.
MPs voted on an amendment[3][4] proposed by Liz Kendall MP:
- page 83, line 5, leave out Part 3
The page reference is presumably in error as Part 3 starts on line 5 of page 84, not page 83 of the version of the Bill under consideration[5].
Part 3 contains the provisions relating to the establishment of Monitor. The effect of the proposed amendment would have been to remove the entire Part 3, the entirety of clauses 57-66 of the Bill, which all relate to Monitor's duties and powers.
