Local Government Finance Bill (Money) — 10 Jan 2012 at 22:29
The majority of MPs voted to fund support paying council tax for those in financial need and to fund technical reforms to council tax
The motion passed by the majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That, for the purposes of any Act resulting from the Local Government Finance Bill, it is expedient to authorise—
- (1) the payment of sums to the Secretary of State in respect of non-domestic rating, and
- (2) the payment of those sums into the Consolidated Fund.
Had this motion not passed central government would not have been able to provide money to local Government to fund support paying council tax for those in financial need; or to fund the technical reforms to council tax provided for in the bill.
Costs anticipated to be incurred as a result of the Bill were itemised in the Summary impact assessment[3]
