Draft Benefit Cap (Housing Benefit) Regulations 2012 — Individual Benefits Cap — 21 Nov 2012 at 19:31
The majority of MPs voted to cap the total amount of welfare benefits an individual can claim from April 2013 at £350 for a single person and £500 for couple per week.
The cap is implemented by reducing the amount of Housing Benefit paid to those who would otherwise exceed the cap.
The motion approved by the majority of MPs was:
- That this draft Benefit Cap (Housing Benefit) Regulations 2012, which were laid before this House on 16 July, be approved.
Exceptions to the cap, including for those receiving an employment and support allowance, an industrial injuries benefit, attendance allowance or war pension are present in the regulations.
