Scotland Bill — Clause 5 — Timing of elections — 15 Jun 2015 at 21:00
The majority of MPs voted to allow a referendum called by the UK Parliament to be held simultaneously with an election for members of the Scottish Parliament.
MPs were considering the Scotland Bill[1]
The amendment rejected in this vote was:
- Amendment 43, page 6, line 8, at end insert—
- (c) A referendum called under reserved powers”
Had it not been rejected this would have impacted Clause 5 of the Bill titled "Timing of elections". Specifically the rejected amendment sought to add the additional element to a sub-clause relating to elections for members of the Scottish Parliament which stated:
- The poll shall not be held on the same date as, or within two months before, the date of the poll at—
- (a) a parliamentary general election (other than an early parliamentary general election), or
- (b) a European parliamentary general election
Clause 5 of the Bill provides for an amendment of Section 2 of the Scotland Act 1998 titled Ordinary general elections [to the Scottish Parliament].
