Opposition Day — Junior Doctors' Contracts — 28 Oct 2015 at 18:53
The majority of MPs voted against guaranteeing no junior doctor will have their pay cut as a result of a new junior doctors’ contract; to remove financial penalties on hospitals designed to protect staff from working excessive hours; to retain the threat of imposing a new junior doctors’ contract; against calling for proposals which are safe for patients and fair for junior doctors and against returning to negotiations with the British Medical Association.
The motion opposed by the majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That this House
- notes the stalled discussions between Government and the British Medical Association (BMA) about a new junior doctors’ contract;
- opposes the removal of financial penalties from hospitals which protect staff from working excessive hours;
- urges the Government to guarantee that no junior doctor will have their pay cut as a result of a new contract; and
- calls upon the Government to withdraw the threat of contract imposition, put forward proposals which are safe for patients and fair for junior doctors and return to negotiations with the BMA.
The motion rejected in this vote was:
- That the original words stand part of the Question.
The "original words" are those in the motion quoted above.
