The majority of MPs voted against requiring regard for the importance of ensuring a balanced representation from the nations and regions of the United Kingdom when nominating Bank of England directors.

MPs were considering the Bank of England and Financial Services Bill[1].

The proposed new clause rejected in this vote was titled:

  • Composition of the Court of Directors of the Bank of England

and stated:

  • In making nominations to the Court of Directors of the Bank of England, the Chancellor of the Exchequer must have regard to the importance of ensuring a balanced representation from the nations and regions of the United Kingdom.
