The majority of MPs voted to reduce the rates of capital gains tax.

The amendment rejected in this vote stated:
- Amendment: 174, page 167, line 40, leave out clause 82
The clause in question provided for a reduction in the basic rate of capital gains tax (CGT) from 18% to 10%, and the 28% rate to 20%, on most gains made by individuals, trustees and personal representatives. It also extends the 10% rate of CGT for gains qualifying for entrepreneurs' relief to include investors' relief. [3]
