The majority of MPs voted in favour of loans rather than means tested grants to fund students' living costs.
MPs were considering the Higher Education and Research Bill[1].
The proposed new clause rejected in this vote was titled: Revocation of the Education (Student Support) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 and stated:
- “The Education (Student Support) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 (Statutory Instrument No. 1951/ 2015) are revoked.”
The clause was accompanied by an explanatory note saying:
- This new clause would revoke the Education (Student Support) (Amendment) Regulations 2015, which moved support for students from a system of maintenance grants to loans.
