The majority of MPs voted to increase the amount paid by the Treasury to the monarch.
The motion supported by the majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That the draft Sovereign Grant Act 2011 (Change of Percentage) Order 2017, which was laid before this House on 26 January, be approved.
The amount the Government pays to the monarch is set out in Section 6 of the Sovereign Grant Act 2011 the regulations approved in this vote change the starting point used in the calculation from 15 to 25% of the income account net surplus of the Crown Estate.
Following the vote the Sovereign Grant for 2017-19 was set at £76,100,000[1] (based on a Crown Estate surplus of £304,100,000) ; for 2016-17 the Grant was £42,800,000[2] (based on a Crown Estate surplus of £285,100,000).
