Draft Renewables Obligation (Amendment) Order 2018 — Support for Use of Biomass in Former Coal Fired Power Stations — 11 Jul 2018 at 19:16
The majority of MPs voted to reduce support for former coal power stations running wholly or in part on biomass such as wood or other plant material.
The motion supported by the majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That the draft Renewables Obligation (Amendment) Order 2018, which was laid before this House on 4 June, be approved.
The implementation of the reduction in support is via the Renewables Obligation system which places an obligation on licensed electricity suppliers to produce a certain number of Renewables Obligation Certificates to the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (Ofgem) in respect of each megawatt hour of electricity. Those suppliers who fail to produce sufficient certificates are required to pay a charge, the revenue from which is distributed to suppliers in proportion to the number of certificates submitted. [1]
