The majority of MPs voted to require landlords of certain privately rented homes to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
The motion supported by the majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That the draft Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Property) (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2018, which were laid before this House on 27 November 2018, be approved.
The regulations require landlords of domestic properties with a Energy Performance Certificate rating below "E" to carry out up to £3,500 worth of works improving their energy efficiency. Previous regulations[2] required such works to be carried out where they could be paid for at no cost to the landlord, by means of funding provided by central government, a local authority or any other person.
