The majority of MPs voted for the United Kingdom to leave legally binding reciprocal international gas sharing arrangements designed to deal with a European Union member state not being able to supply households and essential services and for legislation intended to keep energy regulations operating on the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union.
The explanatory notes to the regulations[1] suggested informal reciprocal gas sharing arrangements could still occur stating: "this does not affect non-legislative co-operation arrangements for gas emergencies that sit outside the regulation".
The motion supported by the majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That the draft Gas (Security of Supply and Network Codes) (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019, which were laid before this House on 30 January, be approved.
