Draft Immigration (European Economic Area Nationals) (EU Exit) Order 2019 — 13 Mar 2019 at 21:22
The majority of MPs voted for European Economic Area nationals seeking entry to the United Kingdom to to be given leave to enter for a limited period in the event of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union without a withdrawal agreement, and for other immigration system changes.
The motion supported by a majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That the draft Immigration (European Economic Area Nationals) (EU Exit) Order 2019, which was laid before this House on 11 February, be approved.
Further regulations:
- Extended the time an individual can spend outside the United Kingdom and Island before the EU Settlement Scheme lapses to four or five years depending on individual circumstances.
- Prevents EU Settlement Scheme leave to remain in the United Kingdom lapsing by reason of by reason of an overseas posting undertaken by a Crown servant or permanent member of the British Council who is an EEA national, or by a member of HM Forces, and in respect of a person accompanying them (or accompanying a British citizen on such a posting)
- Confirms that EU Settlement Scheme applicants are exempt from paying the Immigration Health Charge
- Enables applications for the EU Settlement Scheme to be made from overseas.
